Spell Checking A Spreadsheet

In the "old days" it was virtually impossible to check the spelling in your spreadsheet. Things have changed however. Excel makes spell checking your spreadsheet very easy.

Before we begin, let's misspell a word before we begin the spell check.

Double-Click cell A8


    Excel is ready to edit cell A8.

Move your cursor before the first "i" in "electricity"


    You can use your Left Arrow key to do this.

Press the Del key once


    This deletes the first "i" in "electricity".

Now, on to the spell check.

Spell Check

Click cell A1

Highlight the data range A1 through F14


    You can do this by dragging your mouse "plus" cursor from A1 to F14.

Click the Spell button which is on the format menu

    Excel displays the "Spelling" window.

    Excel suggests the correct spelling for "electricity".

Click the

    Excel displays a message indicating the spell check is complete.
